Assignment: Write a letter to Mr. Hobson’s friends in America.
Dear friend: My name is L. I am a graduate student of the Chinese Academy of Forestry, but I am learning English at Beijing Forestry University. Mr. Michael Hobson is my foreign teacher who always gives us many stories, jokes and humors, so I have such an opportunity to write this letter to you. I thank Mr. Hobson for his enthusiasm. BFU lies in Hai Dian District, Beijing, where there are many famous universities such as Beijing University and Tsinghua University. Although Mr. Hobson has told us something about your university, I still have some questions to ask you. Would you mind taking up your time? My questions are these:
a) How many boy students and how many girl students in your class?
b) How many days do you have class a week?
c) Do you find jobs to make money in winter holiday or summer holiday?
d) Do you know anything about Beijing and Chinese culture?
e) Would you like to study Chinese? If so, I can help you.
f) Would you please tell me something interesting about you?My best wishes to you. I look forward to hearing from you. Sincerely yours, L.

Did your friends in America ever write back to your students?

Good question. RubeRad, did you ever write back to any of my students?
Actually I don’t remember to whom I passed their letters along. Nor do I remember hearing from students that they received responses. Obviously I didn’t put much energy into the pen-pal concept. Shame on me!

I don’t recall getting any letters. I’m pretty sure that if I did get one, I would be excited to respond. (Or at least the me that I am right now would — maybe the me back then would have been more of a jerk)
